Mike Beech is a director, cinematographer, editor, camera operator, and drone pilot based in Seoul. He has worked in a broad variety of genres including documentaries, high-end TVCs, fashion, drama, music videos, broadcast television, travel, and corporate and charity projects. He has won multiple awards at a range of international festivals.
Mike has always had a serious passion for cinema and a love for visual art. From the first photo he
clicked as a child on a homemade pinhole camera to shooting feature-length films on a Red, he has
always found motivation and peace in images. His filmmaking profession has allowed him to shoot in over
twenty-five countries around the globe but the majority of his work takes place in the Middle East and
South Korea.

Reclaiming The Negative
Multi-Award-Winning Short Documentary Reclaiming The Negative was directed, shot, edited and had the music
composed by Mike Beech. Reclaiming The Negative looks at a North Korean defector's
extraordinary and harrowing escape from her country of birth and the artistic process of a large format
photographer who captures a series of stunning portraits of her and other North Korean refugees living in
Seoul, South Korea.
The film won eight awards during its festival run, including Best Short Documentary at the London
Independent Film Awards 2020 and Best Cinematography of a Documentary Film at the LA
Cinematography Awards 2020. It also received a Vimeo Staff Pick upon its online release and was

Mike Beech On Shooting A One-Man Documentary
Working as a professional director and cinematographer over the past eight years has allowed Mike Beech the
opportunity to shoot in more than twenty-five countries. One of the highlights was a short
documentary he shot in the Atlas Mountains in Morocco about a small community of Berber rug weavers. See the full film here:
Mike Beech's Recent Works
In 2022, Mike wrote and directed his first fiction feature ‘Mother Midnight’ (A Korean titled film: Seokkarae)
